Album
Delmark Records released “Hoodoo Man Blues” in 1965. The record has never gone out of print (except for a few months when Delmark moved its offices). And look up any list of “essential” blues records and it is there. There’s good reason for that. Hoodoo Man Blues is Junior Well's first album and pretty near the first LP by a Chicago blues band. Chess and a few other labels had reissued 45's by Muddy Waters, Sonny Boy Williamson, Howling Wolf, Jimmy Reed, Elmore James, etc. but virtually no one had tried to capture the Chicago blues sound free of limitations of juke-box/airplay promotion. https://www.loc.gov/programs/static/national-recording-preservation-board/documents/HoodooManBlues.pdf User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
