Album
Hollywood Love Themes is as deeply romantic and larger-than-life as its cover -- a striking image of Marlon Brando and Jean Simmons culled from the musical Guys and Dolls -- portends. With dozens of original film scores already under his belt, Stanley Black clearly knows his way around a Tinseltown melody, and his arrangements of familiar themes like "Three Coins in the Fountain" and "My Foolish Heart" certainly pull out all the stops: this is orchestration as sheer spectacle, as epic and over-the-top as a Cecil B. DeMille opus. Connoisseurs of subtlety and nuance should look elsewhere, but listeners seeking to relive the widescreen grandeur of Hollywood's golden era will swoon. ~ Jason Ankeny, All Music Guide User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
