"His majesty at the swamp" is the debut full length release of pioneering Greek black/death metal band Varathron. The album was released in 1993 via Cyber Music records. "His majesty at the swamp" owes much of it's sound to Celtic Frost both in terms of riffs and production, although the vocals are far more extreme and the tone is set at a far slower pace. The album is also noted for it's use of atmospherics and melody, being one of the earliest examples of extreme metal music to incorporate those elements in order to create a haunting sound. Although the album is today far less covered by the media than Rotting Christ's classic debut "Thy Mighty Contract" (released the same year) it is nonetheless credited as being both a cornerstone of the Greek metal scene and an influence on the subsequent Norse black metal movement of the early and mid 90's.
