The cover is by French artist, lofi musician, and animator Kid Without Curfew, and depicts the artist's mother, who joined the Navy as a nurse at age 40 despite being 5'0" (1.5m). During a combat medical course, there were no uniforms available at her diminutive size. Away is a cover of Away by Silver Cup. Vocals are by Sarah Velez, lead vocalist of Aster Baby and the Wild Rabbits. The lengthy title for I'm 16 ... matches Spotify's maximum allowed number of characters for a title.
