"Greatest Hits" is a compilation album by American rock musician Lenny Kravitz, released on 24 October 2000. The album includes the previously unreleased track "Again", issued to promote the release. The song became a commercial success, reaching number four on the US Billboard Hot 100 following a series of successful singles from the album "5", and contributed to the compilation’s strong sales performance relative to Kravitz’s studio releases. In interviews, Kravitz stated that the selection of tracks was directed by his record label, Virgin Records, with emphasis on chart success, while sequencing was handled by recording engineer Henry Hirsch. The album reached number two on the US Billboard 200 and number twelve on the UK Albums Chart. In some regions it was distributed with the Copy Control copy-protection system. "Again" was released as the promotional single for the compilation, accompanied by a music video. Its chart performance marked Kravitz’s highest placement on the Billboard Hot 100 since "It Ain’t Over ’Til It’s Over". Critical reception included commentary from Stephen Thomas Erlewine of AllMusic, who described Kravitz as a musician adept at combining stylistic elements from earlier musical eras into a cohesive sound. He observed that this approach sometimes attracted criticism but also noted the quality of much of Kravitz’s work, particularly earlier in his career, and regarded the compilation as representative of that synthesis.
