Endura's Great God Pan has finally been released thanks to Misanthropy . The album began life in 1993/4, but was never previously issued because of troubles with another record label. Happily, the project was rescued by a contract with Misanthropy and reworked in 1996. The 11-track CD is characteristic of Endura's genius at melding various approaches into a 'dark ambient' dreamscape. The album's thematic focus, 'Hymn to Pan', combines at least two styles in one track, moving between rural idyll and march! The opening track, 'Oriflame', begins with a minimalist ritual-industrial rhythm but develops into a dark orchestral piece, while 'Dark Face Of Eve' (previously featured on the Enlightenment Communications Luxuria 2 tape) has a harpsichord effect and vocals, and 'Sperm Of Metals' is an ambient-orchestral piece like the slow passage of a Romantic symphony until the drums kick in to finish it off! Other pieces are more ambient and build up the hypnotic effect that Endura are so good at. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
