Great Deep is the second EP by American singer-songwriter and record producer Marian Renta, released digitally on July 5, 2021. The EP is Renta's follow-up release to Headfirst (January 2021). Similar in sound to her debut studio EP, Great Deep is an emotional blend of Indie pop and soul, and contains minimal drum accompaniment in its songs. The EP was released worldwide to digital stores, in addition to Bandcamp. The lyrical content of Great Deep is a general continuation of the subjects explored in her first EP Headfirst, and the lyrics convey themes of nostalgia, unrequited love, longing, and acceptance of fate. Renta delves into these themes through storytelling and a nostalgic, reminiscent style of songwriting. All of the songs were composed by Renta at her piano, and feature Renta on piano throughout the album. The EP consists of four songs varying in tempo and style, ranging from Indie pop to Soul atop a Trap-laden beat. Recording and mastering occurred in Renta's home recording studio from May 2021 to July 2021, and all of the vocals were recorded using an Aston Spirit condenser microphone. The vocal arrangements are simplistic with moderate use of layering and background vocals. They are performed in a mezzo-soprano tessitura, and are expressed through melisma predominantly in the chest voice.
