http://www.woodlandrecordings.com/RELEASES/WR043.html http://thegreatpark.bandcamp.com/album/good-and-gone 'Good and Gone' is the latest release from the prolific English songwriter Stephen Burch - at the last count this is his 13th full length album on Woodland Recordings. Written and recorded in July 2012 in Berlin and Nürnberg, the album is a collection of songs regarding scenes of drama and trouble on roads, in houses, under trees. Narratives are sketched out and hinted at - there are spaces in stories to fill and make sense of. It begins with a journey stalled before it's even started but ends with the suggestion of triumphant escape - the album a pause of songs on the way. The tone is more rhythmic here - drums scuttle about behind electric and acoustic guitars and motifs are looped - whilst the cello and violin of Volker Hormann and Dea Szücs improvise lines that seem to support and question the melodies in equal measure. Some songs are slabs of sound - dense and heavy - another is a clumsy sketch recorded on a phone at a kitchen table. 01. BAD ROADS AHEAD 05:19 02. HOLD THE FORT 04:10 03. STONES 07:06 04.
