Djevara's debut album was released in 2004. The band set up their DIY label Genin Records / Djevara Music in 2003 using funds raised from family, friends and fans and then set out to release their own (and then other artists's) records independently. The band were strongly inspired by the likes of Fugazi and the DIY punk scene, if not so much in sound as in attitude. Sonically the band were heavily influenced by the heavy alternative rock of the early 90s - reviews regularly mentioned Rage Against The Machine, Deftones, Jane's Addiction and Nirvana as points of comparison for this record, though there are also noted hints of a more experimental/progressive edge (which would develop in later records) as well as stoner rock, punk rock and metal influences.
