Album
Glass Half is the debut album from Menlo Park CA based JUMBLE. Webster defines jumble as "to move in a confused or disorganized manner" but JUMBLE's first album Glass Half does anything but, consisting of ten purposeful, laconic, and melodic tunes. The arrangements are crisp but not formulaic, the lyrics intelligent, and band's guitar-centered sound is at once fresh and familiar. JUMBLE's music looks forward (and often inward) with roots planted firmly in the bedrock of the last four decades of pop music. There is a sense of ironic detachment in the lyrics of singer Lucius James and his vocals, guitar and slide guitar form the basis of the group's sound. Derek Cooper fills out the rest of the band with assurance, adding distinctive guitar solos to Saving Grace and Ordinary Town. From the first song, Saving Grace inspired in part by the 2008 presidential campaign of Barack Obama, to the haunting, eastern-influenced solo on Inside Out played by classical violinist Melba Toast, to the final tune Undertow, a sly reminder of the dangers of coasting, this album provides a series of vignettes that are timely and timeless.
