Delicious and devastating, Dopekick provides the sounds of the future (again), in his great new album for 2011. Swamped with sub bass and breakbeat trickery, the Uk's answer to Meat Beat Manifesto arrives in the form of "Gemini Ghost" by Perception Records artist Dopekick. The title of the album refers to Dopekick's alter ego, a ghostly prescence referred to in the track "Duppy Took Me" (a "duppy" being a ghost or spirit). The music does possess the listener and demands attention with new bass flavours and dubstep sounds. Other sonic touches across the album reference breakbeat and uk bass music from the last 20 years. The most prominent sound is the (current) dubstep beat programming and serious bass business, creating a listening experience for big sound systems, DJs or home listening (if you want to dance around at home!). The final piece on the album has a sleepy feel, as a restful antidote to the tear-out dancefloor dub of the previous tracks. This last track hints at a more reflective side to Dopekick, and we look forward to more releases from this label to come in 2011, to keep up the quality and depth of sound from the great electronic long player.
