GATA City is an alternative rap/hip-hop album by Newark, NJ-based artist ThaGataNegrra. It was initially released on 24 August 2011 by 3 Miles Entertainment LLC, but was re-released/distributed 6 November 2012 for 3 Miles through SHP Records/BrainMuscleMedia.In June 2014, 3 Miles and SHP/BrainMuscleMedia parted ways, and the project returned to 3 Miles Entertainment. It is a 13-track album with nine full original music tracks, one intro, two interludes, and one remix by musician/producer Youhei Yatabe. GATA City was produced and engineered by Razi "PoppaRazi" Miles ("No More Tears" by Felicia Moss) and was written and recorded over the course of six months at Darkroom Studios in Newark, NJ. Songwriter/ CEO of 3 Miles Entertainment LLC Joe Ellis Williams (Jimmy Cliff's "We All Are One") heavily contributed to many of the dance-style tracks on the album. The album is ThaGataNegrra's debut project. Reviews have described the album as "a goulash of different pop music styles... all have a hip-hop core" and "full bottle, in-your-face chick hop". The album had a different title in its inception, but was renamed when the graphic designer mistakenly thought the title track was the title of the album. One of the interludes' titles, "Transmission From Tha Cat Lair", pays homage to one of ThaGataNegrra's influences, De La Soul.
