Album
Boosting away from the classicist sci-fi string arrangements of previous instalments, Mills navigates the deepest, uncharted zones of the cosmos on a "journey of survival to go through this unknown universe, which leads to look deep into ourselves for answers if there is a Future", in his own words. It's definitely still Mills, but feels like heβs made a deeply concerted effort to expand his horizons here, at times crossing lines with the most minimal Γ material or Dopplereffekt's quantum synth physics, but always keeping in touch with his Detroit/Chicago-based mission control. The beatless pieces such as opener Medians or the hyaline designs of Gravitational Lensing and the frankly astounding 17-minute piece Entering (Free Fall Galaxy) rank among his starkest, most enthralling ambient passages, whilst the rhythm-driven pieces are no less considered, almost sounding like Powell's space cadet brother in The Hunter, or scanning slow, alien tribal topography with Transformation in the Virgo Constellation, or even strains of his vintage, hardcore-edged X-101 output in Irreversible Ecliptic Orbits.
