Album
In this her first album available on CD (Verve Forecast 1092402), Jessie Baylin finds herself in good company. Jesse Harris, who produced her iTunes only release in 2007 returns to co-write four more songs with the 24 year old who now resides in her adopted hometown of Nashville, Tennessee. But this time the production and engineering are handled by none other than Roger Moutenot. Moutenot has produced the likes of Elvis Costello, Paul Cole, Freedy johnson and Gillian Welch, among others. Moutenot clearly puts his extraordinary touch to this album and makes it something quite special indeed. Baylin writes with an insight and angst that belie her age. The piano ballad "Lonely Heaven," written alongside Greg Williams evokes musical images of Carole King. Moutenot gets what Baylin has to say and captures it perfectly with just the right rhythms without over-production. The songs are well-crafted, arranged carefully, and beautifully mastered. Of particular interest are "See How I Run," "Leave Your Mark" and "Not a Day More." User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
