Album
Falling into Infinity is the fourth studio album by American progressive metal band Dream Theater, released in 1997. through EastWest Records. It is the only album to feature keyboardist David Sherinian. The album's writing process, was noted to be very frustrating for the band, as their label wanted the band to create concise, radio-friendly songs, with drummer Mike Portnoy fighting against it. For over a year, the band wrote songs without given permission to record them (according to Portnoy). The album was recorded in the Hell's Kitchen neighborhood in Manhattan, New York City at Avatar Studios. The album was produced by Kevin Shirley (who made several altercations to some of what was left of the album). It was originally stated to be a double album but was kept to one disc due to budget reasons. The album on release received mixed reviews from both fans and critics, some sources stating it to be the band's weakest record so far. It reached No. 52 on the Billboard 200 in America and became a commercial failure. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
