Album
Throughout his years exploring other creative outlets, Julian never stopped writing songs. “I get twitchy if I don’t pick up a guitar or sit at the piano every now and then,” he says. “I have to do it; I don't have a choice. Obviously, if you sit down and play around for a bit, you’re going to come up with ideas. One thing led to another and pretty soon I had about 30 ideas, so I invited some friends to come over and flesh them out into songs.” The result is Everything Changes, Lennon’s first studio album since 1998. Produced by Lennon and Grant Ransom and performed by his long-time friends (including Justin Clayton, Gregory Darling, and Guy Pratt), Everything Changes is a showcase for Lennon’s deeply reflective lyrics, memorable melodies, and multi-instrumentalist talents (he played piano, guitar, bass, Wurlitzer, and drums on the album, and programmed the strings and keyboards). “I was inspired by hanging around with this group of musicians and playing off of them,” he says. “I think the album is a bit more free-flowing than my previous work and it’s my favorite so far.” The title track opens Everything Changes in a beguiling, melodic manner and has already received national airplay. The plangent opening piano chords of the captivating Lookin' 4 Luv immediately mark it out as something truly special; this is one return that was worth the wait. Julian Lennon’s delicate phrasing and vocal are immediately recognizable, the lyrics concise and compelling. User-contrib
