Album
Escalator is the only album released by the underground British psychedelic rock band Sam Gopal (aka Sam Gopal's Dream). Recorded in 1968 and released in 1969 on the small Stable Records label, the recording features Ian Fraser Kilmister, later known as Lemmy, who appears as Ian Willis as, at the time, he was considering changing his surname to that of his stepfather George Willis. Five of the tracks are credited as written by Ian Willis. The band's recording of "Horse" and a cover of Willie Dixon's "Back Door Man", which survive on acetate, appear on the re-released album as bonus tracks. According by Lemmy in his book White Line Fever, all songs are written by Lemmy except ”Angry Faces” is by Leo Davidson and ”Season of the Witch” is written by Donovan Track listing 01 Cold Embrace 3:20 02 The Dark Lord 3:40 03 The Sky Is Burning 2:30 04 You're Alone Now 3:41 05 Grass 4:03 06 It's Only Love 4:18 07 Escalator 2:49 08 Angry Faces 4:03 09 Midsummer Nights Dream 2:14 10 Season Of The Witch 4:27 11 Yesterlove 4:55 12 Horse 3:35 (Bonus Track) 13 Back Door Man 3:06 (Bonus Track) Band personnel: Sam Gopal: tabla, percussion; drums in "Season of the Witch" and "Midsummer Night's Dream" Ian Willis (Lemmy Kilmister): vocals, lead & rhythm guitar Roger D'Elia: lead & rhythm guitar, acoustic guitar in "Yesterlove" Phil Duke: bass guitar User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
