Dude Ranch is the second studio album by American rock band blink-182, released on June 17, 1997, through Cargo Music. In 1998, MCA Records signed the band to handle the album's increased distribution. This was the last album to feature original drummer Scott Raynor, who was replaced by Travis Barker the following year. Upon release, the album reached number 67 on the Billboard 200 chart. It was certified Gold nearly a year later and achieved Platinum certification in 1999. Four singles were released from the album: "Dammit" in September 1997, "Apple Shampoo" in October 1997, "Dick Lips" in February 1998, and "Josie" in November 1998. Of these, "Dammit" was the only single to chart, peaking at number 11 on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart. Another song, "I Wonβt Be Home for Christmas," was released as a promotional single in 1998. Both "Dammit" and "Josie" contributed to the band's rise in mainstream popularity. Many songs on the album were written or demoed well before its recording, some dating back to the period before the band's debut album, Cheshire Cat. The track "Degenerate" originated from the band's second demo, "Demo #2." Recording for the album concluded in early 1997, completed over the course of one month. Vocal contributions were provided by Unwritten Lawβs Scott Russo, and producer Mark Trombino allowed the band to record sound-effect jokes between tracks. Bassist Mark Hoppus later reflected on the album with pride, noting it as their first opportunity
