Drinking from the Golden Cup was recorded in New York City in the fall of 1997 with John Bickerton (piano) Ben Allison (bass) and Tim Horner (drums). The album marked Mr. Bickerton's first album release and included eight original compositions. The album did well at college radio rising as high as #14 on CMJ's New Music Report for that year. The music is essentially tonal but the improvising structures are free of chord changes which lead to an open, exploratory sound.
