DCB IS CHRONOLOGICALLY THE 4TH ICECOCOON ALBUM, BUT IN THE TRADITION OF STARWARS, WILL BE RELEASED FIRST. ARTISTICALLY, IT WAS AN ALBUM BORN FROM THE PERSONAL EVENTS OF MY LIFE AT A POINT IN TIME WHERE EVERYTHING WAS CHANGING, OLD RELATIONSHIPS WERE ENDING AND NEW ONES WERE FORMING. I KIND OF GOT THIS ALBUM FOR “FREE” SO TO SPEAK, AS IT WAS REALLY JUST THE NATURALLY BORN SOUNDTRACK TO MY LIFE AND IT ESSENTIALLY WROTE ITSELF. TO SOME DEGREE I THINK THE SIMPLICITY OF IT AND THE STRAIGHT FORWARDNESS OF THE MUSIC, AND THE LITERAL/NON-METAPHORICAL NATURE OF THE LYRICS ARE REPRESENTATIVE OF THAT. SONICALLY, ALTHOUGH I HAVE HAD MANY YEARS AS A PROFESSIONAL ENGINEER, THIS IS THE FIRST ALBUM WHERE I FEEL I HAVE REALLY REACHED THE BASE CAMP SO TO SPEAK OF FILLING MY OWN BOOTS AS AN ACTUAL PRODUCER. I MADE SURE EVERYTHING WAS DONE THE WAY I WANTED IT FROM THE REHEARSAL TO THE MASTERING. MY BRIEF TO MY FELLOW MUSICIANS WAS THAT WE WERE GOING TO REHEARSE HARD AND WITH THE RECORDING, PLAY THIS ALBUM IN AN OLD SCHOOL SENSE, WITHOUT EDITING, SOUND-REPLACING, QUANTIZING OR AUTO-TUNING ETC. I DIDN’T WANT TO MAKE A “PERFECT” ALBUM. I WANTED TO MAKE A REAL ALBUM WITH THE HUMANITY LEFT INTACT. AND I AM IMMENSELY PROUD OF THE RESULTS. WE DID APPROXIMATELY 25 -30 REHEARSALS FOR DCB AND RECORDED THE DRUMS, BASS AND ALL RHYTHM GUITARS IN THE 1ST WEEK OF OCTOBER 2012 AT JOHN REYNOLDS RECORDING STUDIO IN ADELAIDE.
