Album
The idea for Curiosities came about in December of 1990, when Napalm Beach were on their third tour of Europe. Reading the novel Geek Love on the road, songwriter Chris Newman began to see parallels with the freak show element of life for a touring band. Inspired, Newman recorded Curiosities and dedicated it to the book's author, Katherine Dunn. Dunn and Jim Rose (of Jim Rose Circus) attended the CD release party in June of 1993 for which Newman had created several elaborate stage props out of paper maché, including a "floating" flipper boy suspended above the stage, and a "siamese twin" which Newman wore during the performance. Newman also painted the cover art work for the album. Curiosities was recorded at Dogfish Studios in Newburg, Oregon, Summer of 1992. It was released the following January on Tim/Kerr records in the US, and on Satyricon records in Germany. Curiosities features Chris Newman on guitar and vocals, Sam Henry on drums, Dave Dillenger on bass, and Jan Celt on violin.
