Album
Cross Purposes, released in January 1994, is the 17th studio album by English heavy metal Band Black Sabbath. It is the fourth studio album to feature Tony "The Cat" Martin, the second-longest serving Sabbath vocalist. Dehumanizer saw the reunion of Mob Rules-era Black Sabbath, but, after the tour, Ronnie J. Dio and Vinny Appice departed. They were replaced by former Sabbath vocalist Tony Martin and former Rainbow drummer Bobby Rondinelli. Original bassist Geezer Butler also stayed with the band for the Cross Purposes album and tour. The song "Cardinal Sin" was originally intended to be titled "Sin Cardinal Sin" (or "Sin, Cardinal Sin") but a printing error on the album sleeve caused the first word to be removed. Sabbath simply adopted the title "Cardinal Sin" as the name of the song. A black-and-white video was shot for the song "Hand That Rocks the Cradle". "What's the Use?" was released only on the Japanese edition of Cross Purposes. Some fans noticed that a nearly identical version of the "burning angel" image was featured on a Scorpions single 3 years earlier. During the tour for this album, original drummer Bill Ward rejoined the band to play a few shows. However, due to difficult learning the drum parts of Cozy Powell, this lineup only played one song from Tony Martin's era during those shows: "Headless Cross."
