about this album

Court in the Act is the debut studio album by the British heavy metal band Satan, released in 1983 by Neat Records under license from Roadrunner Records. It is regarded as one of the classic releases of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM) Unlike many contemporaries in the NWOBHM movement, Satan’s songwriting on Court in the Act moved beyond straightforward hard rock structures, employing unconventional rhythms, varied pacing, and a darker, more epic atmosphere. The lyrical themes often deal with conflict, justice, and moral struggle, fitting the album’s title and courtroom imagery. The band’s musicianship, particularly the guitar work of Steve Ramsey and Russ Tippins, has been praised for its technical precision and interplay.
