CHIAROSCURO is NAMATOKE'S debut instrumental concept album. “Renaissance artist Caravaggio used the CHIAROSCURO technique to create vivid paintings using extremes of light and shade. I’ve used a similar concept to write music with varying textures to keep the listener absorbed without the use of vocals. This was a creative pursuit for me, as vocals were previously of one my strongest musical abilities. Because I have always written poetry and lyrics, I have included a poem for each of the songs to act as a gateway to what I was imagining whilst composing.” - NAMATOKE “NAMATOKE breaks listeners expectations with CHIAROSCURO. These tracks brood and curl around the ears, leading the listener to broken and glorious internal landscapes. Equal amounts of sweetness and melancholy exist here, leaving no doubt that the instrumental album is still a rare and powerful force on the Australian music scene.” A. Laver– Rebel Yell Magazine.
