Checkmate is the fifth extended play (EP) by South Korean girl group Itzy. It was released on July 15, 2022, through JYP Entertainment, and Republic Records. The EP consists of seven tracks, including the lead single "Sneakers". This year (2022) in July, ITZY has renewed its own record with its fifth EP “CHECKMATE” and its title track “SNEAKERS” as it appeared at No. 8 on Billboard 200, the magazine's main chart, and No. 10 on Artist 100, the chart that ranks artists by tallying their overall performances. Over 720,665 pre-orders were made for the album and 472,394 copies were sold on the album’s first week of sales based on Hanteo Chart, a website that tracks album performances. On August 31, the album sold over one million copies based on Circle Chart’s shipment figure, being officially certified as a million-seller and marking a milestone for the quintet’s new career high.
