Released by Manchester based crank wave trio Speaking in Tongues at the break of 2022. The breathing/speaking in tongues double single is the only lasting evidence of their significant contribution to the underground Manchester scene bubbling at the time. The single opens with barnstormer speaking in tongues, a song calculated to blend the more punk sensibilities of the trio with a more “wall of sound” approach, inspired by acts such as my bloody valentine and the jesus and mary chain. Second track breathing follows a more introspective story of insomnia and paranoia built up due to loneliness and guilt. The song is a slower burner playing with cutting and dynamic blasts through the chorus which later blends into a delicate and beautiful outro melody, a tender release to a a song that keeps building.
