Album
…One of the best recordings ever made from many standpoints: one of the best jazz vocal albums, one of Decca’s best, one of the best concept albums, one of Lee’s best, and so on. Lee named it as a favorite when she was interviewed by British jazz journalist Max Harrison in 1977, and mentioned that singer-songwriter Joni Mitchell had also told her how much she loved it. But when Harrison asked Lee if she had plans to make any more albums like Black Coffee, the singer graciously demurred. Her attitude seemed to be that it had already been done, and how could she possibly improve on Black Coffee? - Will Friedwald, jazz reviewer for The New York Sun - User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
