Electronica, minimal, deep tech house, or trance... It is hard to find the true definition of Jesse Somfay’s first album, “Between Heartbeats.” This young producer from Ontario, at the age of 19, shows deep maturity through a personal and endearing introspection of 73 minutes of pure melodic electronic music. It is a diverse blend of various influences that dance together through 10 tracks - dynamic grooves supporting a spaced-out soundscape, building into an emotional story of warm effects gently swirling in a digital ballet. Here, Somfay shows his musical maturity and proves he’s not afraid to dive head-first into long, catchy melodies. Armed with his guitar and computer, Jesse does not compromise himself to anything other than what his mind sets upon. His music hatches with ambience that reminds the listener of the likes of Ricardo Villalobos, Mathew Johnson, Depeche Mode, or even an interesting hybrid of indie-rock and sophisticated new age music. “Between Heartbeats” becomes one’s own journey that follows you throughout the day and conveys to everyone a very different feeling, based on personal and/or musical experience.
