Lead-singer and songwriter, RAS, more or less coined the term for his band. "Headshine" represents a good vibe when things automatically click and the moment is just right. It's like catching the perfect wave - the feeling of being in-sync with yourself and the elements. This synchronizing of sound and style is felt throughout the EP. RAS sings like an artist who has been through a lot and is only beginning to bare all. The Huntington Beach singer/songwriter has cultivated a surfer/acoustic sound with a touch of reggae and California sunshine. In "Better Things," the first track off Headshine's EP, the message is straightforward and light. RAS sings in his charismatic voice, "Better things are coming my way/Never giving up/The best is yet to come." While "Better Things" might have a touch of premonition to its lyrics, "One Spark" and "Devil In My Bed" are in tune with a more Latin-feel. "Devil In My Bed," with a hint of Ricky Martin-suavity, is a fun and sexy song to listen to. It has to be stated here: RAS's song-writing is simple yet the final product is movingly so. His talent lies in his ability to craft life, love, and all the spaces in-between into his lyrics. His voice provides many textures to the music tapestry, so that there is not one word that fully encompasses his style. With the backing of major-label producer, Jim Perkins and with the premiere of his first single "Better Things" on San Diego's 91X, things are definitely looking up for the singer/songwriter.
