The inaugural Non Projects release and debut album from Los Angeles-based Ryan York (aka Asura), Asura dropped on January 19th, 2010. The album is solely available in digital- and vinyl-formats, the latter being a double 12" LP with included booklet of York's artwork. Digital mastering for the release was done by Daddy Kev at The Echo Chamber, while the vinyl was mastered by Simon Davey of The Exchange. The album consists of both skillfully manipulated digital sounds and samplings as well as bass, cello, guitar and trumpet instrumentation which reflect York's classical training. York also lends his voice to a few tracks along with fellow Non Projects artist Ana Caravelle, who is featured on the track Timber. "A eclectic work that is genuinely surprising," the album consists of "occasional, clipped hip-hop beat, the digital synth strobe, like Nosaj Thing passed through a filter...lo-fidelity Boards of Canada electronic-psych, clattering ambient-field recordings, technicolour and bubbling techno-washes" . The album has also been described as "gorgeous music" with "sublime pulsing electronics and layered bliss" . UK-based distributor Boomkat lists the album among their digital download bestsellers for the month of January 2010 .
