Album
In the grand tradition of True Norwegian Ambient, the first track of Information's debut CD Artifacts begins with a slow, deep, repetitive "thu-rrumping" sound, like a great pulley-wheel grinding round and round within the icy soundscape produced by the duo of Per Henrik Svalastog and Jørgen Knudsen. This is a collection of pieces previously released on twelve-inch vinyl or created especially for various art installations. Fans of Biosphere's later recordings, Phonophani and to a certain extent Porter Ricks will be pleased by this effort. Occasionally interesting juxtapositions emerge, such as in "Seabourne/Stationary", where a sampled voice goes on muttering about New York City over the sounds of a windy, desolate seaside in winter. Minimal beats and monochromic rumblings characterize the album and the overall sound is at once varied and cohesive. Restrained, inventive and recommended.
