Album
Before singer/guitarist Steve Miller became one of the late-'70s big names in rock & roll, he specialized in psychedelic space blues. Released in 1972, the 16 track ANTHOLOGY collects Miller's best tracks from his first five, pre-JOKER albums, distilling and capturing Steve Miller's space blues songs into a tight, effective collection. These songs are hardly as tuneful or effortlessly catchy as the songs on 1978's Greatest Hits, but are all first-rate period pieces, with an excellent quality of lyrics and music composition. This is the "old" Steve Miller, which some feel is the best part of his career. Notes: 1. ANTHOLOGY was digitally remastered May 1990 (by Larry Walsh, Capitol Recording Studios). 2. Paul McCartney recorded drums, bass guitar, backing vocals and guitar on 'My Dark Hour' (see http://www.beatlesbible.com/1969/05/09/paul-mccartney-plays-drums-steve-miller-my-dark-hour/ & http://www.allmusic.com/song/my-dark-hour-mt0005867734 for more information.) 3. Boz Scaggs was an early member of the Steve Miller Band, and was credited with vocals and guitar on Anthology. Additionally, he co-wrote "Going To Mexico" with Steve Miller.
