Kublai Khan was an American thrash metal/speed metal band from Minneapolis, Minnesota, formed in 1984 with Greg Handevidt (a guitarist/vocalist who was a member of Megadeth, but left the band earlier that year). They released a demo, on cassette tape, called Rape, Pillage & Destroy in 1985. Their only album, Annihilation, was released in 1987, then re-released as a split CD with Blood Feast's Kill for Pleasure by Shark Records in 1989. Annihilation was also reissued in 2003 by the label Exit Only. The band ended in 1988 when Kevin Idso, the former leader of the band, had a falling out with Handevidt.. So Idso, along with the rest of the band, kicked him out and changed the name to "Kronic Death". The music that Idso wrote for this group became the foundation for his solo project, "Kronk", in 1990. Since then, Kronk has released 3 demos and 3 full length albums, the last one in 2007. In 2003, former members of Kublai Khan briefly reunited with Idso to release a demo called "Kronk meets Khan".
