Recorded in 2006/7, Animal Actors represents London band The Hidden Messages' debut album. It was recorded in small parts in various studios and bedrooms across the capital, from studios 3 and 5 at the BBC's Maida Vale studios to Matt and Claire's living room in Rotherhithe. The name comes from a game made up in the pub after a gig, it was used as a working title but stuck. The album makes use of the bands multi-instrumentalism, and includes on it all the usual indie rock suspects - bass, drums, guitar and keyboards, but also theramin, mandolin, violin, euphonium, melodica, vocoder, celeste, hammond organ, marimba, glockenspiel, rhodes and a home made SID synthesiser kept in a plastic lunchbox!
