Album
This collection includes ten of the nearly two dozen covers performed (and often arranged) by David Cook during his successful run to the title of American Idol Season 7. During his time on the show, Cook was lauded for his ability to put his own spin on songs from a variety of genres so that they suited his own style and vocal abilities. Included are standouts Little Sparrow, an acoustic gem of a Dolly Parton original that takes on nearly Celtic undertones in Cook's arrangement; Billie Jean, Michael Jackson's smash hit, retooled by Chris Cornell but impressively interpreted by Cook; and Music of the Night, from Andrew Lloyd Weber's Phantom of the Opera - which illustrated the contestant's versatility as he chose not to rearrange the song, but to perform it in traditional Broadway style. Altogether an impressive string of performances that more often than not earned praise from the judges, and ultimately clinched the title for the 26 yr. old Missouri native.
