Album
Alligator Bites Never Heal is the debut mixtape by Doechii, released on August 30, 2024, through Top Dawg Entertainment and Capitol Records. The title reflects her struggles with personal challenges, label conflicts and creative numbness. Doechii described the project as her fight back, reclaiming her role as a predator rather than prey. The title also pays homage to Doechii's Florida roots, where the American alligator serves as the state reptile and a nod to her "Swamp Princess" nickname. It was preceded by the singles "NISSAN ALTIMA" and "BOOM BAP". The only guest appearance is from rapper Fetish. The mixtape earned critical acclaim, winning its nomination for Best Rap Album at the 67th Annual Grammy Awards, making Doechii the third woman to win the award. Its lead single, "Nissan Altima", was nominated for Best Rap Performance, while Doechii herself was nominated for Best New Artist. Critics praised Doechii's stylistic range, blending boom bap, EDM and soul. Her lyricism was highly commended, with Rolling Stone's Mankaprr Conteh highlighting her "wicked pen and brilliant charisma", and NME's Kyann-Sian Williams describing her as a "witty, comical songwriter".
