This CD of Gothic Electronic Music by Jim Kirkwood, was inspired by the person of Jonathan Miller who in 1829 burnt down a section of Yorkminster Cathedral in the belief he was doing God's work. The following is an extract from the CD notes used by permission from Dark Age Music. Confessions of a Firestarter βI was fifty-six years of age when I died. Not exactly old age is it. But there again, I did spend the last nine years of my life in the house of God they call Bedlam. But I was not alone as I am now. We were all priests in there and in his own unique way, God spoke to all of us, in coded whispers and beautiful words designed for angels and nightingales. My ilk are intermediaries between God and the rest of mankind. We make known his strange and mysterious ways. My God is the God of the burning bush calling the prophet to holy orders, the column of fire that burns by night, and the descending fire that shakes the mountain, commanding the people to obedience. And when they are not obedient, what then? My God is a consuming fire. The events which took place that cold February day in the year of our Lord 1829 are well documented. They should be. However, what rankled with me, was the continuing insistence that my sanity was greatly impaired on the day in question, as if there was any doubt that God was capable of speaking directly to a soul.
