Sarah Lain's debut EP shows off her voice and her songwriting in equal measure. Starting with an ultra-slowcore version of Low's "Sunflower" exuding calm pathos, it moves on to the darker, confident sophistication of "Hidden Agenda". The centrepiece of the record is the haunting and evocative "Floating". Sarah's crystal-pure vocals wander in and out of billowing reverb and minimal insrumentation, while "Like A Book" shows a more raw, angry side. The EP concludes with a cover - or perhaps re-interpretation would be a better word - of Eric Clapton's "Wonderful Tonight". Slowed down and stripped back, with a ticking clock keeping the rhythm, Sarah is a lost voice singing in the dark.
