Once upon a time there were four dissolute kids: one from an island in the North Sea, one from Indonesia, one from Britain and one who might loosely be described as Italian. They met on the edge of the known world (aka Perth), formed a band and released two albums and then the forces of the universe sprayed their molecular structures back across the globe. The guitar player lives a suitably decaying life in London; the excitable guy who flapped around the stage like a wounded bird, designs bridges and motorways whilst ensconced in an ivy clad university town and the rhythm section start a family in Iceland, lured there by the promise of work in an abattoir. Piece that together, convert it into a sound file in your head, press the play button in your brain and you are already hearing Snowman’s new album Absence. Absence was recorded with Aaron Cupples (The Drones, Civil Civic, Paul Kelly, Dan Kelly, Ukeladies) at various locations around London: a railway arch, a couple of studios in Hackney and in his flat in Dalston. Joe McKee from Snowman says of Absence… “The ideas grew from months of travel, being away from home and its comforts/familiarities. I ended up back in London with a wad of about 30 postcards I’d collected by various photographers. They all contained a similar mood, an un-nameable emotion.
