A Northern Soul is the second studio album by British alternative rock band The Verve, released on 3 July 1995 through Hut Records. Produced by Owen Morris, who later worked with Oasis on (What's the Story) Morning Glory?, the album marked a shift towards a heavier, more emotionally intense sound compared to the band’s psychedelic debut A Storm in Heaven. The record received critical acclaim for its raw production and Richard Ashcroft’s deeply personal lyrics. Notable tracks include "This Is Music", "On Your Own" and "History". Despite modest commercial success at the time, A Northern Soul has since gained cult status and is often regarded as one of the defining British albums of the 1990s. The album’s turbulent recording process and internal band tensions eventually led to The Verve’s temporary split later that year.
