Album
A Few Old Tunes (Vol. 1) is a rare early compilation by Scottish electronic duo Boards of Canada, originally self-released in 1996 on cassette under their own Music70 label and shared only with friends and close associates. Recorded mostly between 1991 and 1995, the tape offers a raw, lo-fi glimpse into the duo’s formative sound — a mix of hazy synth experiments, nostalgic samples, and ambient sketches that predate their acclaimed albums like Music Has the Right to Children. Because it was never officially distributed, the release acquired cult status among fans after it leaked online in the early 2000s via peer-to-peer networks. Today it’s celebrated as a fascinating artifact of Boards of Canada’s early creative process — uneven, mysterious, and full of ideas that hint at the duo’s later signature sound.
