In its arrangement by the EOS Guitar Quartet, Ástor Piazzolla's four seasons, the Estaciones Porteñas, form the framework of this recording featuring music from Latin America. With each change of season, the guitar also finds its way back to the port of Buenos Aires, where the moods of return and departure flow into one another and inspire us to travel around the world. Uarekena is a study of Brazilian musical culture arranged in a virtuoso manner by Sergio Assad. In its luxurious richness, it mirrors the tropical rain forest. Sergio Assad is probably better known as the partner of his brother Odair in the outstanding guitar duo Assad. Cuban composer Leo Brouwer originally conceived Acerca del cielo, el aire y la sonrisa for a guitar orchestra. In its two movements entitled "The City of thousand Strings"and "Echo Fantasy", it explores the extraordinary spectrum of sounds of the guitar. The arrangement recorded here was created at the composer's suggestion and is a concentrated, chamber-music version of the work. Brazilian composer Paulo Bellinati wrote his A furiosa and Baião de gude for guitar quartet. In these two works, the composer blends in a singular manner Brazilian folklore with elements from jazz and contemporary music. Retrato de A.P. by the Swiss composer and pianist Jacques Demierre is an homage to Ástor Piazzolla: "Retrato de A.P. is a portrait that... represents in its images a momentary attempt at getting closer to a person...
