“2984” (released in 2008 by Final Muzik label) is the comeback album of italian '80s band Soglia del Dolore. The band began to play in 1982 in the Friuli region (North-East Italy) and emerged in the punk scene of those times as local representatives of the so-called “peace punk” movement, which originated in the United Kingdom from Crass Records bands, such as Flux of Pink Indians, Omega Tribe, Dirt, Conflict and Crass itself. A sort of punk against the grain, which systematically refused contracts with majors and kept itself light years away from the merchandising circus into which mainstream punk was being transformed. Indeed, the band has always been primarily interested in the political and social aspects of the punk movement: the name “Soglia del Dolore” (Threshold of Pain) referred to the feeling of being psychologically overwhelmed by human suffering, caused by the summing up of several factors: war, poisoning and destruction of the environment, consumerism, violation of human and animal rights, distorted use of the media for mass control,... These are the things their songs spoke and speak of. After a change in the line-up in 1983 and one year and a half of concerts in the most improbable places and contexts, the band splits up in 1984. The first record (a self-produced E.P.) is released posthumously in 1985 in 1.000 copies and becomes a cult object among collectors, still sold at extortionate prices on eBay.
